Every Brilliant Thing

Under the direction of Gordon Carpenter, INDEPENDENT THEATRE in association with Suffer Out Loud and Active Minds MSU presents Hugh Burroughs in the award-winning interactive comedy Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan

The story of Every Brilliant Thing:

You’re six years old. Mom’s in the hospital. Dad says she’s “done something stupid.” She finds it hard to be happy. So you start to make a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world. Everything that’s worth living for: 1. Ice cream. 2. Kung Fu movies. 3. Burning things. 4. Laughing so hard you shoot milk out of your nose. 5. Construction cranes. 6. Me. You leave it on her pillow. You know she’s read it because she’s corrected your spelling.

Soon the list will take on a life of its own.

Freely Macrame With Me

Space and materials are limited. Register HERE!

Brought to you by Freely Sway Cords and taught by Amanda Genthe, this workshop offers an awesome tool for finding yourself in the present moment.

Amanda was born and raised Jersey girl who followed the love of her life to Colorado 8 years ago - "I’ve been living in Montana for almost two years and wow, what an amazing place to be. I started macrame about 4 years ago making plant hangers for my home. When I was in grade school summer camp, we used to make friendship bracelets – the basic knots for macrame. So, picking up the hobby was like riding a bike. Macrame brings me out of my own racing mind and into the present moment. Knot by knot I am pulled into a calmer state. I hope you guys find the present moment when we’re together; a place of calmness and serenity. "

This workshop is free but space is limited! We have a 15 person cap so register asap!

Story Centered: Theatre For Wellness

  • Verge Theater at Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This workshop will be a short 60 minutes of gentle discomfort, laughter, play, validation, and sharing. Our facilitators, Kate & Dani, will bring you a small spice of improv and storytelling, centered around our lives and the ways in which we experience the world, as tools for sharing, understanding, and coping with all of our colorful phases of mental health. Here is what our workshop leads have to say about what they have to offer:

Kate (facilitating gentle improv for wellness): Whether you are an actor or not, playing theater games can be invaluable. Learn to be present and connect with others, move through fear and vulnerability in a safe space, trust yourself, communicate effectively, and most importantly, LAUGH! We’ll begin this workshop by tapping into the joy of creative play. Be prepared to move.

D ani (facilitating sharing): Stories are what give meaning to our day to day lives. We share memories and pass them down through photographs, written work, and oral communication. We share stories through our actions, rituals, and traditions each year around the holidays. Not all of them are good, but they are all meaningful if and when we share them. In this workshop we will find time to share and hold each other's stories.
